Offering Bilingual Spanish-English Family Law Solutions

MariaJose has specialized in family law throughout her legal career. She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia and thereafter engaged in post-baccalaureate study in Rome, Italy, where she focused on conflict resolution among international and intercultural communities. Since she began her legal career at Temple University, she has focused her passion for conflict resolution in divorce and other family law matters. She has practiced family law in small boutique firms serving the needs of people with complex incomes and significant assets and business entities, and she has worked with nonprofits serving the needs of low-income people with significant debt, limited resources, and other complicating legal entanglements. She has been recognized by her peers for her legal work in Super Lawyers since 2024 and Super Lawyers Rising Star since 2018.

MariaJose's legal practice is trauma-informed. She has extensive training in the dynamics and effects of domestic violence and child abuse, and she has years of experience working with victims. MariaJose recognizes the effects of trauma on individuals and families engaged in the judicial system, and as a result, she maintains a compassionate and mindful approach to her family law engagements.

MariaJose is committed to serving the community. MariaJose is fluent in Spanish and has personal experience growing up in the United States as part of an immigrant family. Her experience living abroad as an adult further deepened her appreciation of the immigrant experience. She has experience working with deaf and hard of hearing individuals and recognizes the unique strengths and needs of that community.

MariaJose knows a lot of child support. In 2018, Governor Polis appointed MariaJose to serve on Colorado's Child Support Commission, which is tasked with reviewing Colorado's child support laws and making recommendations to the legislature. As a commissioner, she liaises with the Colorado Bar Association's Family Law Section to ensure that private attorneys who help their clients with their child support needs have a voice in how child support works in Colorado.
